The common bonnet is a small, greyish-white mushroom that has a conical cap when young that becomes a broad umbo as it ages. The mushrooms have caps with distinct radial grooves, particularly at the margin. They can be found on the Barff growing on decayed tree stumps and logs in small clusters from Spring to Autumn.
