Bar Tailed Godwit
A common shore bird found on mudflats around the country. They have a long fine tipped, slightly upturned bill which they use to good effect probing the mud looking for worms and molluscs. The Bar Tailed Godwit have a pale buff coloured breast and a streaked grey brown and buff coloured back.
They can often be seen standing on the shore line sleeping on one leg, occasionally waking to have a good stretch and yawn.
