Bullfinch
Bullfinches are plump and colourful birds; the males sport a bright rosy-red breast and cheeks, black cap white rump, a pale grey back and a stubby bill. The females have a black cap though their breast is more beige coloured, and their back is a dull brown. They have a rounded bill to feed on buds and fruit rather than seeds, though during the winter months they can be found visiting the garden bird feeders. They are a very timid bird and are usually found in pairs or small family groups, except in spring when they gather in flocks of 50 or more. Bullfinches are widely distributed throughout Europe and Asia, and in the UK they can be seen everywhere except for the very north and west of Scotland.
