The Greater Spotted Woodpecker is a common visitor to my patch on the Barff. During Spring 2011 I watched four seperate sites all with young fledglings in. The male birds are relatively easy to spot with a red patch on their head and under their tail. They have a black and white upperbody with white patches on their shoulders, and a bright buff coloured belly.
