Willow Warbler
Willow Warblers are slim, delicate birds, very similar to the chiffchaff and can be found in the woodland and bushes. They are a widespread visitor to the UK during the summer months and migrate to southern Africa for winter.
They have a tuneful melodious, warbling type of song. They feed primarily on insects during the summer but will eat fruit and berries as the season rolls on. Their nests are quite distinctive, dome-shaped with a hole in the side, close to the ground. They lay very small eggs which are so tiny that three weigh the same as a one pence coin.
Willow Warblers are green above and pale yellow below, with an off-white belly and eyebrow stripe. Willow Warblers and Chiffchaffs are both very similar, olive-coloured warblers, so are best identified by their song: Chiffchaffs sing 'chiff chaff chiff chaff'. Willow Warblers have pale legs, while Chiffchaff legs are dark grey.
