Pheasant
A non native bird, first introduced into this country by the Normans in the 11th Century. The Female hen pheasant is buff coloured bird with dark brown markings. They tend to nest in shallow depressions in the ground under a hedge or among tall grass.
The male cock pheasant is a beautiful, colourful looking bird. It can be extremely noisy and has some distinct markings on its head and body. It is a very protective bird and will fight quite viciously to protect his hen pheasants from any other male visitor into his Hareem.
