Ashy Faced Barn Owl
One of the most endangered species of Owl, infact they are only found on two islands in the Caribbean - Hispaniola and Tortuga. They live in open woodland of scrubby trees and nest in caves and tree cavities, unfortunately the larger American Barn Owl has invaded Hispaniola, which means it can take a wider range of prey than the endemic owl and like many of the Caribbean islands deforestation is widespread, removing the habitat at the expense of the Ashy Faced Owl. They feed on small mammals and small birds as well as tree frogs and lizards.
The Ashey Faced Barn Owl are a medium sized owl and as the name states, they have an ashen coloured face. They are very similar to the darker species of Barn Owl.
Today several Owl Conservation Groups are taking part in a conservation programme to try to save this beautiful bird.
