Chester Zoo
Chester Zoo is situated approximately a mile north of Chester in the district of Upton.
Opened in 1931 by George Mottershead and his family, today the zoo has become one of the UK's largest in the country with over 21,000 animals and 500 different species. The zoo covers an area of over 120 acres and attracts over 2 million visitors a year. It is open all year round from 10.00am and provides a full day attraction for the visitor. There are clearly marked trails around the site and plenty of places to get refreshments. Today the zoo is operated by the North of England Zoological Society, a registered charity founded shortly after the zoo opened in 1934. As a registered charity the zoo receives no government funding. Car parking is free and on site. Facilities for disabled visitors, including self-drive electric scooters and wheelchairs. At this current time, (September 2020) due to the Covid 19 restrictions, tickets should be booked online prior to your visit, but it would be advisable to check their website before your visit.
