Wild Flower Meadows
Sadly, since the outbreak of the first world war the wild flower meadows have almost dissapeared from our countryside. Many of those plants that made up those meadows have now become extinct, with many more of them on the endangered list.
There are many people with their own opinions as to the cause of this decline but primarily, changes in farming techniques such as utilising more land for crop production, animal grazing, land drainage as well as the growth and diminishing brown belt land all have contributed to the clearing of the wildflower meadows.
Fortunately ecologists over the past twenty years have been able to raise the media's awareness as to the importance of the meadows. Wildflowers help us maintain a healthy eco system. It is quite apparent that they attract bees and other beneficial insects into the garden which feed off the flowers as well as polinate them.
