Chaffinch at Reflection pool
One of the many things I enjoy about photographing wildlife is the solitude - the peace and quiet, the second is that although you already have a pre-planned idea what you are hoping to film during the day, it is the unexpected that always seems to pop up out of the blue and throws the mind-set, do you keep filming what you had originally planned to photograph? or do you film the distraction? This was the scenario I faced many times recently whilst I was filming the red squirrels at a reflective pool in the Yorkshire Dales. The Chaffinch would be quite opportunist visitors to the water’s edge, along with Coal Tits, Great Tits and Pheasant. The bird’s colours looked too good to miss, so when I could I would photograph the birds when the Squirrels had momentarily disappeared. Although as soon as the squirrels returned they soon scattered the birds!
