Rosebay Willowherb
Chamerion angustifolium
A common wildflower not only on Brayton Barff, but on waste ground around the country. Rosebay Willowherb is a tall plant with pink flowers rising up a flower spike, these flowers appear from June to September. It has lance-like leaves which are arranged spirally up its stem. It is a classic example of a Pioneer species, one of the first plants to colonise on waste and barren land. At the turn of the 20th Century it was a scarce woodland plant, it wasn’t until after the two world wars that the plant started to thrive, in fact one of its common names in the South East is ‘Bombweed’
