Howden Minster
Situated along the M62 corridor between Goole and Newport in East Yorkshire, Howden is a bustling pretty village. The Market place has a wonderful mix of small shops, cafe's and tourist shops with lots of character.
The Minster stands proud in the middle of the village and its green roof can be seen for miles around. It was built by the Princes Bishops of Durham in the Middle Ages, to serve the parish of Howdenshire, but like all other churches suffered after the reformation when the townsfolk kept the naive as their Parish Church, leaving the East end to fall into ruin. The ruins are now looked after by English Heritage. Today the Western end of the Minster has been restored and today it serves as a Parish Church which plays an important part in the community.
