The Farndale Valley
Farndale Valley is one of the most stunning and picturesque valleys in the North Yorkshire Moors National Park. The valley runs northwards from Lowna on the Hutton le Hole to Gillamoor road and is bounded by Blakey Ridge along the eastern side and Rudland Rigg on the western side of the valley. During the Springtime (normally end of March - the beginning of April) the valley bottom running alongside the River Dove, is covered in wild daffodils. There is a pleasant walk from the small hamlet of Low Mill following the river to High Mill, adjacent to Church Houses. Refreshments are available from 'Daffy Cafe' in High Mill. It is worth extending the walk to Church Houses just a couple of hundred yards further to walk around the church yard of St Mary's church, which is amass with the daffodils.
Agriculture is the mainstay of the dale namely sheep and cattle. Farndale Show is held every August Bank holiday and visitors come from all parts of the country to enjoy the spectacle.
