Castleford Footbridge
The Castleford Footbridge was officially opened on the 4th July 2008 and cost in the region of £4.8m. The ‘new’ footbridge is 130metres in length and links Aire Street to Mill Lane, crossing the River Aire adjacent to the Queen’s Flour Mill.
The curved Cumaru timber boards have come from sustainable forests in Brazil and selected for their durability. As well as the futuristic design and shape another feature is the lighting which has been set under the handrails and turns the bridge into somewhat of a tourist attraction, especially when seen in the dark of night.
