Black Backed Jackal
The most common of the three species (Golden and Side striped) seen in Kenya. The Black Back Jackal live in pairs as opposed to a pack. They tend to be most active first thing in the morning and late afternoon/dusk. They stand at around 16 inches tall at the shoulders, have a ochre coloured coat with a silver flecked black saddle. They are opportunist feeders and live on small mammals, birds and carion and can often be found scrounging for a meal after a lion kill.
