Masai Giraffe
The world's heaviest ruminant and the tallest land mammal makes the giraffe one of the most easily recognisable animals. It is quite common in most of Kenya's National Parks. The coat pattern is that of irregular brown blotches on a yellow buff background. They will strip leaves and shoots from the most thorny trees and bushes with ease by using their prehensile lips and a very long 45 cm tongue. They stay active almost all day, only seeking shelter during the hottest part of the day. They never venture too far away from water, drinking every 2-3 days when water is available. They normally stay in pack sizes varying from 6-12 animals.
We saw many Masai Giraffe at Lake Naivasha and in the Masai Mara.
