A large Antelope with its forequarters higher than its hindquarters, giving the apperance of a pronounced slope from front to rear. They are grey in colour with a long mane of black hair on the neck and shoulders and a long beard of hair on the neck and throat. The head is large and broad with a completely black face. Both sexes have horns measuring between 40-70 cm in length and from a flat base curve outwards, downwards then upwards, very similar to the Cape Buffalo.

They are frequent visitors to the open grassland and are plentyful on Cresent Island.
