Lake Naivasha
Lake Naivasha Sopa Resort
A stunning lodge and resort. We stayed in a detached chalet overlooking the reserve, some 500 metres from the main part of the hotel, with magnificent views across the parkland. The resort is set in about 200 acres on the southern shoreline of Lake Naivasha in the Great Rift Valley. The grounds and gardens around the hotel were quite remarkable, with a wide range and selection of colourful shrubs and bamboos.
During the evening the Hippo's would amble up from the shoreline to graze on the lush grass around the chalet's, which meant that we had to be shaparoned from our room to the hotel for evening meal in the main part of the hotel by an armed guard albeit armed with a large wooden club to scare off the hippo when they got a bit to inquisitive. Needless to say we were greatful for his services.
From the balcony of our chalet we had clear views of Rothchild Giraffe, Waterbuck, Guinea Fowl, Cape Hare, Zebra, Crowned Plover. Dik Dik and Impala, oh, and the Hippo during the evening.
