Mountain Lodge
Serena Mountain Lodge
Located at around 7,200 ft above sea level on the slopes of Mount Kenya. The lodge is a two hour drive from Nairobi. It is surrounded by dense rainforest and has fantastic views across the tree line, All the rooms look out onto a large watering hole which makes it ideal for watching the visiting animals as they come in for a drink or bathe in the pool. The hotel is classed as a timber clad lodge hotel built on stilts, It was extremely comfortable with full onsuite facilities in the rooms. The evening meal and breakfast was on the 'covered' open air restaurant which gave excellent views of the visiting wildlife. Benson, one of the rangers took us on a guided evening walk around the lodge, accompanied by our armed guard. He gave a most fasinating insight into the life of the animals living around the lodge, showing us their habitat and pointing out some of the many birds and monkeys living high above us in the canopy of the trees.
Animals - African Cape Buffalo, African Elephant, Columbus Monkeys, Hornbills and Crowned Eagle.
Needless to say we didn't get much sleep during the evening as the porters kept waking us when wildlife came to visit the watering hole during the night!
