Glenfinnan Monument
Situated at the head of Loch Shiel the monument was erected in 1815 to mark the place where Prince Charles Edward Stuart (Bonnie Prince Charlie) raised his standard at the start of the Jacobite Rising in 1745.
Today there is a comprehensive visitors centre car park and café. Need I say the monument and surrounding area is very popular with overseas visitors all following the ‘Harry Potter’ story.
The West Highland railway line runs from Fort William and crosses the Glenfinnan Viaduct on route to Mallaig, the journey is renowned for some stunning scenery, alas in the film Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets (2002), the flying Ford Anglia lands on Glenfinnan Viaduct!
