Southern end of Derwentwater
The Borrowdale Hotel, our base for all our trips to the valley, has a lovely walk opposite the hotel at the Southern end of Derwentwater. From the hotel cross the main road and follow the signpost to the lake, the track which can be quite wet and boggy at times, runs alongside the river Derwent for a while before crossing a wrought iron footbridge. Follow the path over the bridge onto the broadwalk, a raised track across the wetlands to the lake. There are some beautiful views with Skiddaw in front of you, Catbells to the left and on the right the Watendlath escarpment and Walla crag, behind looking into the Jaws of Borrowdale is Castle Crags.
