The Bowder Stone
Situated about a mile from the village of Grange, The 1870 tonne stone is the size of a house, It is reached from the Bowder Stone car park, there is a very pleasant half mile walk from the car park to the stone. A metalled ladder has replaced the old wooden one which allows you to climb to the top of the stone with care. The origins of the stone are not known, some say it had fallen from the fells above, whilst other say it was deposited there during the Ice Age.
