Just over a hundred years ago, Threlkeld was a busy dirty industrial centre, with lead and copper ore being mined in the valley and granite quarried from the surrounding hillside. At the Threlkeld quarry a group of volunteers run an interesting open air history museum, with a comprehensive collection of mining artifax and minerals.
