‘The most Spectacular Train Journey in the World’, The Yellowhead Route: Vancouver – Jasper 4th June 2009.
It was another early start as we left the Metropolitan Hotel in Vancouver and drove the short distance to the Rocky Mountaineer Station in Vancouver for 8.00am, where we boarded the train and escorted to our luxurious seats as part of the ‘Goldleaf Service’ Our suitcases were being transported separately by road to the town of Kamloops our overnight stay. Today consisted of a 276 mile journey following the course of the Fraser River from Vancouver to Kamloops, a journey that took approximately ten hours. The following morning we boarded the train for a similar journey, 274 miles, this time following the course of the North Thompson river and latterly the Fraser river as we pass Yellowhead pass prior to arriving in Jasper, the end of our train journey.
The Rocky Mountaineer was founded in 1990 and it runs between Vancouver on the west coast to Banff in Alberta. IN 1995 the service introduced the ‘Goldleaf Service. The company has continued to expand and in 2006 introduced the ‘Fraser Discovery Route’ between Whistler and Jasper, as well as a route between Vancouver and Whistler.
