Whale Watching. Hyannis
Something I had been looking forward to during our trip to Cape Cod. We boarded the ‘Whale Watcher’ in Hyannis, it was a superb boat, 130ft long and 28 ft wide and powered by 5 waterjets. Designed specifically for Whale Watching this configuration made her a fast and highly manoeuvrable boat. The spec of the boat was extremely whale friendly as there were no external propellers. The boat had two skippers as well as observers from the whale protection society, who monitor and record all the whales in these waters. We had a great four hours on the water, seeing plenty of Minke Whale and Tuna. I found it quite challenging trying to take pictures on the boat due to the tidal swell, then there was the problem of knowing where the whales were going to surface next, the trick was to keep your ears open and listen for them to blow as they surfaced, then of course you had to find them in your view finder before they disappeared under water! A great experience though.
