Riva del Garda
Riva del Garda.
Riva is situated on the North West corner of Lake Garda. It is one of the biggest and best known holiday resorts in the area and a renowned Water sports Centre.
Riva is sheltered under the overhanging cliffs of Monte Rochetta and separated from the small town of Torbole to the east by Monte Brione.
It was a fashionable resort at the turn of the twentieth century. Prior to the World War 1 Riva was under Austro Hungarian rule, only passing over to the Italians at the end of the War.
The large lake front piazza is surrounded on three sides by 14th century porticoed buildings, hiding the town’s walls and narrow streets of the pedestrian quarter.
Riva is a beautiful place to sit and enjoy a coffee or ice cream, surrounded by some remarkable buildings.
