Lazise
Lazise is situated on the bottom right hand corner of Lake Garda. The first thing that strikes you as you arrive in Lazise are the towns walls which date back to the 1370’s. The town during the Venetian period was an important trading centre and the customs house adjacent to the harbour controlled the movement of goods and transport on the lake.
Secondly, within the town walls it is a traffic free zone so you can wander around and admire the tall medieval buildings without the fear of being hit by a car or fast scooter, well almost!
The narrow harbour at the end of the Piazza Vittorio Emanuele is surrounded by a row of pretty houses with restaurants and trattorias. The two wide arches of the Arsenal are 14C and open towards both the harbour and the lake.
The slender bell tower of the church of San Nicolo rises behind the Arsenal and is dedicated to the patron saint of sailors.
From the harbour follow the edge of the lake to the wide promenade which has some fancy block work paving. Palm trees provide some protection from the mid-day sun. Venetian style street lamps line the promenade.
