Lake Maggiore
With borders in Piedmont, Lombardy and the Ticino canton in Switzerland, Lake Maggiore is the westernmost of Italy’s great lakes and the second largest. It is the lakes proximity to the Alps and its temperate climate that has made it a popular holiday retreat for many years. It is this climate that attracts the visitor to the luxuriant gardens and tree lined promenades its other great attraction though are the Borromean Islands and the tropical gardens of Isola Bella, Villa Taranto and Isola Madre to name but a few and all easily reachable by water taxi from the small town of Stressa.
We had a very pleasant seven-day holiday in August 2019, stopping at the Hotel Borromees in Stressa.
