Isola dei Pescatori
Isola Pescatori is a small compact island, thought to have been habited from around the 10th century. Its narrow-cobbled streets, pretty harbour and charming houses make it well worth the visit.
Today there are only about 50 permanent residents who live on the island all year round.
The main occupation of the island used to be fishing, there are still a handful of the blue fishing boats along the shores that some families still use to fish the lake although the main income for the residents is tourism.
The quaint old houses on the island have been built in such a way as to avoid the flood waters to which the island is susceptible in the spring and autumn. The doors are situated on the inner streets which are at a higher level than the lakeside to stop water entering.
The church dates to the 11th century and is dedicated to San Vittore.
There are many small restaurants and cafes along the shoreline serving excellent meals.
