Moraira
2017 Tuesday 23rd May – Thursday 1st June 2017
This was our second visit to Moraira, our first back in 2015. We stayed with our friends from Peter & Geri who own a property on the outskirts of this lovely small coastal town on the Costa Blanca and were our excellent chaperones during our stay.
Moraira is a small town with a population during the winter of approximately 13,000, though during the summer months this rises to around the 40,000 mark. Moraira is situated approximately halfway between Alicante and Valencia on the South Eastern coast of Spain. There is approximately 8km of of stunning coastline which is surrounded on the western side by mountains and vineyards.
Today, there is still a small fishing fleet in the town and a popular, bustling fish market, although this area is also famous for growing the Muscatel grapes. The main economy of the town though revolves around the tourism market and Spanish property sales. There is a high number of expatriates who live here permanently.
There are many places to wine and dine in the town and the seafront bars and cafes are a popular meeting place.
The weather in Moraira is typically Mediterranean with approximately 300 sunny days a year. The mountains protect the town from the strong winds and heatwaves. Summer temperatures are hot and the winters are mild. The sea temperature during the summer months can reach 25C. There is very little rain between July to August.
