Standing tall and proud on Liberty Island in the middle of New York harbour, the Statue of Liberty has for more than a century served as a symbol of the American Dream. Depicting Liberty throwing off her shackles and holding a beacon to light the world, the monument was the creation of the French sculptor Frederic Auguste Bartholdi.
