Locorotondo Market
Locorotondo is a small hill top village. It is situated between Martina Franca and Alberobello in the Valle d'Itria, a green stretch of countryside dotted with the famous whitewashed cone-roofed trulli houses designated one of the most beautiful villages in Italy. It is a labyrinth of cobbled streets and whitewashed houses. Like other villages it became common practise towards the beginning of the 14th Century to whitewash all the houses, originally to help counter the diffusion of the plague. Today the tradition is continued as a symbol of the villages culture and history.
The houses are also noted for their pointed roofs known as ‘cummerse’ as well as the limestone roofing slabs.
The market was busy selling a wide range of goods from fruit and vegetables to footwear and clothing.
