Marina Grande - The Old Town
The picturesque port of Marina Grande is nestled into the charming nook of the Amalfi coastline and has the atmosphere of a forgotten world. I had been going to Sorrento for several years before I found this fishing port and it is like stepping back in time as you walk down the steep road between the houses until you reach the seafront. This small port has maintained its rustic charm, original identity and sense of community. Small restaurants, homes and shops rise along the curve of the rocks and colourful booths on the pier, are all architecturally consistent and create a very picturesque scene. The harbours community is unsurprisingly close knit, entrenched in time honoured customs and proud of its heritage, maintaining a cottage industry approach to its ancient and primary source of survival: fishing.
