The Cloisters of St Francis
The monastery’s origins date back to the first half of the 15th Century. The cloister’s architecture has crossed arches in tufto on two sides of the portico expressing the style of the late 1300’s and substituted on the other side by round arches on octagonal pilasters. Various elements of pillage are present as in three corners columns which appear to have been taken from pagan temples.
Throughout the year brides and grooms from around the world come to the cloisters to get married. During the summer months the Cloisters are used for a variety of functions including art and craft displays as well as the Sorrento Music Festival.
Alongside the cloisters is the church of St Francesco which dates back to the 16th Century.
